Just got a call from a goat buddy that a 4 month ND he picked up has tapeworms.  Took a fecal and all else clear except tapes.  He first tried Safeguard, did nothing.  Then Valbazen and still seeing them.  He wonders if he should be seeing a full tapeworm - just detecting small segments.  So now his vet gave him Praziquantel for dogs in tablet form.  Is it safe and should he be seeing results  quickly?
Fortunately in all my goating years never saw a single case of tapes.

Praziquantel is one of the best meds for tapes and yes, it is safe. You can use the dog med or you can get it in equine paste. I use the equine paste.

DragonLair Farm and Kennel in Central Maine with Nubians, Lamanchas and Oberhasli. Of course, combinations of 2 or more breeds happens also.

Safeguard or Panacur will work.  He isn't dosing it properly, or long enough.

Dose at 1cc per 10lbs of body weight once daily for 5 days.  If need be you can go longer... dosing 5 days in a row, then off for 5 days and back on for 5 days and redose again after 10 to 14 days if they are still there.

The wormer kills, maybe he's seeing dead worms in the stool.  One thing about it though, if you kill them too fast you'll impact that baby and he will die.

Valbazen if over dosed will kill that baby.
